Temporary eResources Card

Mar. 23, 2020

While our local libraries remain closed under the provincial state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to make sure that everyone in the Peace Library System region can access our eResources even if they have not yet registered as a patron with their local library.

To that end, we have set up a Get A Library Card form on our headquarters website so people can register to receive a free temporary eResources card. When they sign up, Janet will register them to their closest local library and send them a barcode and PIN which will allow them to access eResources for the next three months.

Once things return to normal and libraries reopen, these patrons can come into their local library and sign up for a full membership.

We know that this is not typical procedure, but these circumstances are not typical! At this time we want to get our catalogue of eResources in the hands of as many people as possible so everyone who has been isolating themselves at home can keep busy with leisure reading, school help, and self-development. Peace Library System has ramped up purchasing for Overdrive and Cloud Library, and many eResource vendors like Ancestry which are typically only for in-library use have generously opened up access from home for the time being.
